FT says «Powell of the Fed’s selection may not be the non-event, it seems»

An opinion article in the Financial Times on the possibility of choosing as Jerry Powell to the Federal Reserve System President

  • After the feints in the directions of Gary Cohn, and Kevin Warsh, and John Taylor, the president suggested that he was interested in an appointment that would really shake the Fed is a philosophy. This has significantly changed the bond yields a little, as investors prepared for the prospect of a more hawkish Fed than expected. That fear held the final of leaks prepared the way for a Powell presidency.

But …

  • There are reasons to fear that Mr. Powell is not quite the non-event that it appears. If Mr. Powell is coupled with Mr. Taylor, the most well-known champion of one of the basic rules of the Edf, as his deputy, the president will be well-designed quite a change in philosophy — a net swap Taylor-for-Yellen would be a big deal.

The article is here for more. This is the FT, so may be dependent on: Powell of the Fed’s selection may not be the non-event, it seems
