The propaganda has completely changed and everyone is trying to understand what comes next

Mass communication is available for everyone

What is power?

Of course, it is the ability to pass laws, marshal of the armed forces and launch missiles. But it is also the ability to get people to do what you want.

The simplest way to do this is to connect directly with them and this is where the rules have been broken. Not only that, but the official word is now competing on virtually the same terms with rumors and misinformation.

The New York Times writes about propaganda today in a story it is well worth reading. They talk about Putin, the press secretary on the airwaves of inspiration from protests and revolts. What is clear is that the Kremlin believes that events like the Orange Revolution in Ukraine and the subsequent events were stimulated by Western propaganda. Now they are fighting back

The transformation and acceleration of information technology, Peskov, said, had unmoored the world economy from the real value. Perception alone could move markets or crash. «We’ve never seen bubbles, as we’ve seen in the biggest economy in the world, the United States,» he said. The same free flow of information produced a «new conflict of interest», and so began a «disaster information, an informational war.»

Moreover, he says it is a landscape that is dangerous to any government, because individuals can exert enormous influence.

For example, he pointed out «this girl, show-business, Kim Kardashian.» Kardashian is among the most popular people in social media, with 55 million followers on Twitter, nearly $ 18 million more than the President of Atout. «Imagine that one day, she said,» My supporters — do, «» Peskov, said. «It will be a signal that will be accepted by millions and millions of people, and it has no intelligence, no Ministry of the Interior, no Ministry of Defense, no K. G. B.» This, he said, was the new reality: the global proliferation of the types of reach and influence that were once reserved for the great powers and, more recently, for large media conglomerates. Even Peskov sounded a little astonished considering the possibilities. «The new reality creates an ideal opportunity for mass unrest,» he said, «or to initiate the support of the mass or mass of disapproval.»

It is the information age, and this means that information is power. If it was not obvious a year ago, it is today.

It would be easy to believe and easy to counter if all discontent was really a kind of campaign government. It would be much harder to swallow would be, as Marshall McLuhan said: «The medium is the message.» That the democratization of new media, new ideas and misconceptions are just a lot easier to spread and believe.
