More about Japan retail sales data (summary)

I’ve posted the data here, a slight miss on the y/y, but not too bad overallThis is taken on the data, via Reuters:

  • Japan’s retail sales rose in September, the fastest pace in three months
  • A sign that consumer spending remains strong due to a tight labour market
  • «The consumption in July-September is likely to be somewhat lower than in the previous quarter, but the outlook remains healthy,» said Shuji Tonouchi, senior economist at Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities. «The consumer spending recovery to be moderate. The labour market will support spending in the future.»
