NZ data of the Trade balance for the month of August, a larger deficit than expected in -1325m

  • should -825 million, before +85m
  • Largest deficit since September 2016
  • The first deficit since February 2017
  • YTD trade deficit of 3.2 billion NZD

Exports 3.69 bn a big miss

  • intended to 4.05 billion euros, prior to 4.63 billion

Imports of 4.92 billion

  • forecast of 4.8 billion euros, before 4.55 billion

NZD marked a little lower on the result
For more details on the outcome of the Stats NZ web site seems to be back. I couldn’t access it in the wake of the publication of data.The main page re this data release is a little weird (IMO), with the title and the opening lines focusing on kiwifruit exports. It may be good to focus on the positives?My apologies in advance for those who have an interest in the kiwis I may offend with this post. FWIW, I’m down with the kiwis otherwise.
